Abstract

The renovation of the Bihari János Cultural Association and Dance Ensemble's Akácfa Street headquarters facade windows may seem simple at first glance, even when we are talking about the two-story high coupled box-type windows. However, during an earlier restoration, a distribution floor was also installed with flexible dance flooring. To develop the technical solution with a log research work we are able to fill in the missing information. In addition to taking thorough measurements, we also carried out research on the history and on the construction period of the building, research and analysis of contemporary structures helped to reconstruct the door and window structures. The comparison of the established requirements with the
methods accepted by the today’s standards of reconstruction, eventually lead us to the final solution, which ended up differently that the above stated methods. In addition to the most important milestones of this work, we are presenting our evaluation system for the current, scientifically accepted renovation possibilities applying to the box-type windows, which pointed out that these methods are not always applicable, and a detailed criteria system based on conditions and requirements can help to select the most appropriate solution.
