Abstract

At different times of the year, the Sun orbits our buildings in completely different pathways, resulting variance in the angles of sunlight penetration. These angles can be investigated through a daylight analysis. The analysis vividly illustrates the building’s solar exposure, and depending on the chosen method of examination, it can provide numerical data in various ways. In this study, we perform daylight analysis for a family house, examining how the placement and size of the windows influence the solar exposure of individual rooms. During the research, we accelerated the generation
of alternatives for our investigations using parametric design method to prove, that parametric design could be advantageous for designers even on a smaller scale, and could expedite the workflow. With this method,
we conducted over 200 analyses, proposing window designs for the examined spaces based on the findings.
