Construction has significant environmental impacts, which need to be increasingly taken into account in the face of global climate change challenges. In this article, we would like to show how the aspects of architectural and structural design can be combined with the analysis of environmental impacts using the method of total life cycle analysis (LCA) in connection with the design process of a residential building with low energy demand. In the case of the planned residential building, two types of structure designs were compared, the masonry, reinforced concrete slab solution and the CLT wood panel construction. With regard to thermal insulation, we examined the use of polystyrene foam, mineral foam and mineral wool materials. Our study was conducted starting from a BIM environment using One Click LCA software. The method and our results may be interesting for all those who would make a decision regarding the material use of their planned building taking into account the environmental impacts.
