Abstract

The article presents Budapest based architect Dezső (Edelényi) Himler’s work in Kaposvár between 1904-1913. His name is less known in the city even though his public and residential buildings are very significant. Multi-storey apartment buildings, an office building, a motion picture theater, a printing and publishing house, a savings bank, and a hotel were born by his hand, using new forms of expression and structural solutions. The postcards of the period evoke the prewar feel of Kaposvár when art nouveau first appeared in town. In addition to reviewing his buildings the reader can learn more about his life from archives research. The article contains some data about his work in Budapest as well but this topic needs further research.
