In Hungary, the industrial heritage doesn’t have enough attention. Our project is trying to focus on this problem, and we want to draw attention to the importance of these industrial buildings. The plan is situated in Ózd which city was built around a steel factory from 1847. This city was known as one of the biggest heavy industrial areas in Hungary. As the factory grew the cityscape has changed a lot. Countless chimneys were built but the chimneys of Gyár street became the symbol of Ózd. In the early 2000s the city lost its symbol. The local Industrial Heritage Protectors invited tenders for a memorial for the steel factory and its huge chimneys. The planning site is in Gyár street where the original chimneys were located. At first, we had to make an environmental analysis so we realised the importance of the factory for the local people, and we could start planning wisely.
