Nowadays, timber is increasingly being chosen as a structural material for buildings worldwide. One reason for this is the drive for sustainability and environmental awareness, and the emergence of innovative wood products that
can now effectively compete with other building solutions due to their beneficial properties. This article presents one such increasingly popular technology, the Cross Laminated Timber
(CLT), which is less widespread in Hungary.
It describes the main properties of structural elements, their design guidelines and their connection arrangements. It also proposes
the use of CLT for a single-storey extension
to an existing family house, which will help to understand the specificities and advantages of the design of the technology.
