Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport is the primary international airport, serving the Hungarian capital city of Budapest. The airport is a city within the city with an area of 15 km2, and the companies and enterprises related to the operation of the airport region employ 155,000 people, which would make it the fourth most populous Hungarian city after Budapest, Debrecen, and Szeged. In his book Aerotropolis, published in 2011, John D. Kasarda discuss that one of the drivers of urban development
in the XXIst century will be the airport, just as
the rail networks and the automobile were several years ago. The concepts of Airport City and Aerotropolis were born in international literature. The study presents the future development possibilities of the Budapest airport based on the relevant literature and the lessons learned from a professional interview.
