UNDERSTANDING SOCIALIST MODERN ARCHITECTURE THROUGH MÁRIA JÓZSA’S ADYVÁROS CITY CENTRE BUILDING

Abstract

Nowadays, we are witnessing the process of destroying the buildings of the era, becoming the scourge of time or being the victims of a higher decision due to false judgment. In my dissertation, I deal with the Adyváros City Centre complex, which was built during the period of socialism. In connection with this, I am examining the questionable future of the socialist modern heritage, focusing on the city of Győr. I will place the building in the oeuvre of the creator, Mária Józsa, and present its role in the architecture of the city. In addition, I am analysing the possible vision of the building complex, comparing relevant domestic and international examples. My goal is to show the value of the City Centre and to demonstrate possible methods of present utilization to save them.
