PAPER-BASED PRODUCTS IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

Abstract

Paper-based products appear in many areas of industry, so the aim of this article is to present the applicability of paper products in the construction industry. Since the construction sector requires a lot of energy and resources, it is essential that natural-based, sustainable materials come to the fore in this area as well. The use of paper and cardboard in the construction industry has a long history, especially in Far Eastern culture. Thanks to the work of Shigeru Ban, the use of paper tubes became popular at the end of the 20th century, as he used them as structural elements to create temporary structures. Nowadays, the use of cellulose-based products as insulating materials is becoming more and more widespread. Continuous research and development help paper-based products to be long-term and sustainable solutions in the construction industry.
