Abstract

Designers have two options for quantifying the effect of fire. The simpler option is the prescriptive method, which can be used to determine the average gas temperature without knowing the characteristics of the fire section, which can be considered valid at all points of the fire section. In the case of the performance-based method, the knowledge of the parameters specific to the compartment fire is necessary in all cases, the resulting gas temperature depends on this. In addition to the description of the very simple parametric temperature-time curve, the standard presents the examination of the effect of localised fires and also mentions the use of complete fire models. During the preparation of our article, we do not consider the possibility of examining the entire fire models, instead we limit ourselves to a detailed presentation of the localised fire effect, with the help of which the thermal effect of burning cars can be well characterized. The presented method is also suitable for investigating special cases such as fires under bridge structures.
